Mourners

I was thinking recently about something I said.

I sometimes wish that when something dies on this planet, all other living things feel that loss. I know something is always dying at every moment of every day, so that if we were to feel the loss of all of them, we would be paralyzed and unable to do anything or to actually live our lives.
So I was considering that if indeed all things on this earth were connected in some way, maybe there are people on the planet who do stop and mourn all the bad things that happen. Maybe these are the people who struggle with depression or bipolar disorder. We are the designated mourners. We feel pain even when we have no known reason to feel pain.

But I donít believe in mysticism.
